And now for something completely different!

My personal taste runs traditional for basses. Give me a P-bass with flats, and I'll be perfectly happy. That said, every bass that Geoff Gould has sent me has knocked me out tonally. His graphite necks really do something magical to the tone of a bass; it focuses the sound in a really great way. Geoff's basses speak very clearly.

Needless to say, I approached Geoff about the possibility of him making a bass with more traditional styling (i.e. a Fender shaped object) and one of his fabulous graphite necks. I also asked him to install a Bartolini 8S pickup which is a newfound love of mine. Geoff agreed, and here's the first of two such basses that I ordered.

The tone is exactly as I had hoped. It's a P-bass with a focus and a purity of note that is really great!

The nut width is 1 5/8", and the neck profile leans more slender than baseball bat. It feels like a very comfortable P-bass to me!

Please note that the tuners have mini-cloverleaf keys, which Geoff chose to reduce weight. The bass weighs just 8.8 lbs, so there you go. If you're a traditionalist like me, the tuners would be pretty simple to swap for full-size cloverleaf keys.
